Since 2015 and the Yeats 150 celebrations Hamilton Gallery has sought to engage with visual artists nationally with our annual small works exhibition. Each exhibition is themed around reinterpretation by visual artists of progressive and radical social themes voiced in WB Yeats’s works, and how these ideas are extant in contemporary Irish society.

2018 marks 100 years since the end of World War I. Irish society and culture will face an important opportunity to reflect upon and address the contentiousness of how so many young Irish men lost their lives in the carnage of that war, while revolution was also taking place against English rule at home.

Accordingly, for our invited artists exhibition this year we have chosen WB Yeats ‘An Irish Airman Foresees His Death’ as the catalyst for our annual Invited Artists Exhibition 2018.
