Hawk

The hawk was WB Yeats’s totemic bird. In the story ‘The Wisdom of the King’ the metamorphosis of man into bird is complete. In ‘ The Old Men Of The Twilight’ the metamorphosis of man into bird is not irreversible but grace and repentance are needed for salvation. In the stories of Saints and Beasts man, birds and animals are in a prelapsarian harmony, bound one to the other by friendship and service.

Stories told by storyteller Amabel Clarke interspersed with tradional Irish harp music composed by Sinead Nic Gearailt in response to Yeats’ mythologies.
